Watch movement enlargement in 5 steps
Share
At KERIS, a watch movement enlargement project is far more than just scaling up. It’s a demanding technical and aesthetic transformation, designed to deliver an immersive, educational, or event-driven experience. Here’s how we bring your vision to life — in 5 key steps.
1. The brief: building a solid foundation
Every project begins with a detailed brief outlining:
- who will handle the object,
- the context of use (museum, trade show, training, boutique...),
- the type of animation or interactivity,
- and most importantly, the intended message or key takeaway for the observer.
- This is accompanied by 3D files of the original movement, along with the desired enlargement scale (x10, x12, x16, x20, etc.).
2. Movement analysis and adaptation
We then reconstruct each component of the mechanism to adapt it to a large-scale version.
This includes:
- selecting materials suited to the enlarged format (different from micromechanics),
- addressing manufacturing constraints at scale,
- and anticipating public interaction and repeated handling.
3. 3D prototyping: testing the experience
Before production begins, we create a 3D-printed prototype.
The goal: to validate proportions, ergonomics, clarity, and ease of manipulation.
This stage is key for refining the user experience and ensuring it aligns with the original intent.
4. Finishing, assembly, and fine-tuning
Next, we move to:
- sourcing all components,
- defining the exact finish of each element (lacquering, anodizing, texturing, etc.),
- and then carrying out assembly and meticulous fine-tuning.
This final step ensures that the enlarged mechanism delivers the intended experience in any environment.
5. Presentation: packaging or event-ready transport
Depending on your needs, KERIS offers:
- premium packaging for series production,
- or custom flight cases for mobile, event-based installations.
