The heartbeat of the watch

The balance and hairspring form the regulating heart of a mechanical watch, oscillating several times a second, out of sight. The Oscillator brings this mechanism into the open: its balance measures close to 200 mm, its motion deliberately slowed so the eye can follow every swing. Give it an impulse by hand, and the hairspring begins to breathe.

It does not tell the time. Instead, it brings within reach the mechanism that makes mechanical timekeeping possible.

The Oscillator is the second creation in FOCUS, the KERIS line for collectors, following The Winding. Each FOCUS piece takes one element of watch mechanics and makes it accessible at a scale where it can be handled, not just observed.

ANATOMY OF A DETAIL

THE OSCILLATOR — 1675 engraving

NEW ENGRAVING

1675

The number engraved on the base, 1675, refers to the year Christiaan Huygens introduced the balance spring, a development that would profoundly change portable mechanical timekeeping. It is a discreet reference to the history behind the mechanism The Oscillator celebrates.

THE OSCILLATOR — the ruby at the center

THE RUBY

THE HEART AT THE CENTER

Positioned at the very center of The Oscillator, the red polymer jewel is a deliberate reference to the synthetic rubies found throughout mechanical watch movements. Here, its role is purely aesthetic. Its deep red color draws the eye to the center of the mechanism and creates a striking contrast with the surrounding metallic finishes. A familiar watchmaking detail, simply given a new scale.

POLISHED & BRUSHED ALUMINUM

A PLAY ON FINISHES

The Oscillator combines micro bead-blasted, brushed and polished surfaces, allowing each component to react differently to the light. The warm tone of the balance contrasts with the more technical finish of the structure and base, giving the mechanism a strong presence as an object in its own right.
